Please expect delays of up to 45 minutes on routes 5 and 29. Shenandoah Area-- BUS 4 will not be running this afternoon. It will be covered by BUS 42. Good afternoon Stanley Elementary Faculty, Staff and Families, Stanley Elementary School has been evaluated by both the Stanley Fire Department and PCPS Maintenance Staff. It has been deemed safe for students and staff to return. Shenandoah Valley Electric shared that a tree downed a power line which caused a power surge in some areas. This power surge resulted in some classrooms at Stanley having significant power surges. Evacuation and early dismissal of the school were necessary to do a thorough walkthrough and safety check. While we understand this created a disruption for students and families, we felt it necessary to err on the side of caution to have the building fully evaluated prior to returning any students or staff. Parents or guardians who would like to pick up any of their student’s belongings may do so today between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm. Please come to the school’s main entrance and a staff member will assist you. Stanley Elementary will open tomorrow, Wednesday, May 8, 2024, as normally scheduled. A couple of thank you's as we reflect on today’s situation: Stanley Fire and Rescue - for your prompt response and careful review of our building. Stanley Students - for listening to your teachers and staff when they needed you to do so. Stanley Parents and Guardians - for your patience and understanding today. Stanley Elementary administration and staff - for being responsive and working through the early dismissal process seamlessly. PCPS transportation department staff and bus drivers - for immediately being available to provide transportation home when called upon. PCPS Food Service Staff - for providing food and drink for students as quickly as possible. We appreciate your continued support of Stanley Elementary and PCPS! Dr. Fox.

Buses will be on site at Stanley Elementary at 11:30am to load students. When buses depart Stanley Elementary we will notify families. Again, we ask that if you are coming to pick up your child, please be prepared with a photo ID and follow the directions of the staff on site. Thank you.

Stanley Elementary School has been cleared by the Stanley Fire Department; however, while thermal images by the Fire Department show no active fire, out of an abundance of caution to determine the cause of a potential electrical situation this morning, we will be dismissing Stanley Elementary School early. PCPS will provide transportation home for all students who need it and we will share an estimated time of departure from Stanley Elementary School shortly. If parents or guardians opt to pick up their child, please have a photo ID ready and follow all directions of staff while on site. PCPS will provide a bag lunch ad drink to all students to take home. Please be advised that students will not be able to return to their classrooms to get their belongings before being dismissed.
