On October 18th, Mrs. Lauren Deavers and Stanley Elementary School hosted the annual Title I Literacy Night. This year’s theme was Reading Rocks! Prior to the event, teachers showed a read aloud in class that echoed the chosen theme. Students in PreK-1st grade read Stone Soup by Marcia Brown, students in 2nd-3rd grade read Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, by William Steig, and 4th-5th grade students read The Legend of Rock, Paper, Scissors by Drew Daywalt.
That evening, students rotated between stations of hands-on learning games and activities that went along with the story assigned to their grade level. Activities included letter matching, sequencing story events, rock observation, building a pet rock, and more. After an evening of fun and games, students were able to pick from a wide variety of donated books to take home and enjoy. This year’s Literacy Night was once again a success, and another step towards instilling a love of reading and lifelong learning into the students of Stanley.
